Media Studies A Level at Manshead CE Academy

Course description

Students beginning A Level Media Studies in September 2017 will be studying a new specification. The exact content of the new Media specifications is yet to be confirmed, however, the following details have been published:

Assessment weighting: 70% Exam 30% Controlled assessment.

Course content

 Analysis of media texts, focusing on their cultural, social and historical context
 Study of media key concepts: Media language, Industries, Audiences and Representations
 Investigation into media studies debates e.g. censorship, the internet, new media
 The individual construction of a cross media portfolio e.g. a video with an accompanying magazine front cover and webpage

Entry requirements

Grade 4 or higher in English

Future opportunities

As part of a wider programme of study the course provides an excellent basis for progression to many careers and University courses. Media related University courses include: Film and Television Production, Film Studies, Digital Media Arts and Media and Communication Studies. Examples of employment from the study of Media includes; Media production, journalism, marketing and advertising.
