GCSE Design and Technology at Cockermouth School

Course description

Combines design and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to design and make quality products. Students have the option of covering:- Resistant Material Technology. Students will carry out designing and making activities working in metals, plastics and wood. Electronic Products. Students will learn about designing printed circuit boards and casings to enable them to make quality products. Graphic Products. The students will become aware of the importence of graphic design in the field of marketing. Food Technology. Students will learn about food materials and components, product design and marketing and food process and manufacture. The difference between the first three courses relates to the materials used. Resistant Material Technology is based on wood, metal and plastics. Electronic Products contains more electronics but still deals with resistant materials. Graphic Products involves two dimensional work - drawing and three dimensional modelling. All options involve the use of CAD/CAM computer aided design and manfuacture as a coursework element. Food Technology students will be expected to cook regularly, preparing and developing food products. Food Technology. Guest chef demonstrations. Electronic Products. Entry into the Schools Technology Tournament and other activities.

Entry requirements

Students should be able to manage their own time,as in Year 11 they will be expected to work to strict deadlines for completion of course work.
