Applied Health & Social Care at All Saints RC Comprehensive School

Course description

Year 1

Unit 1: You will learn about aspects of human growth and development throughout the life stages; factors that can infl uence human growth what it means to be healthy, and how health and well-being can be promoted.

Unit 2: This unit will give you an understanding of the importance of communication in caring activities and about the values involved in care.

Unit 3: This unit will allow you to understand the diverse society we live in, and that the promotion of a care value base can enhance service users’ opportunities in accessing services.

Year 2

Unit 7: An examination unit which assesses your knowledge and understanding of how health and social care services are structured, and provided in the UK.

Unit 8: In this unit you will fi nd out why health promotion campaigns are carried out and how target groups are identifi ed. You will carry out a small scale health promotion.

Unit 9: You will learn about the disease process, and will carry out an individual investigation into various aspects of two specifi c diseases.

Entry requirements

Students should have 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including a minimum grade C in English.
