BTEC National Diploma (L3) (Extended Diploma): Sport at Casterton College Rutland
The full BTEC National Extended Diploma is a full time course equivalent to 3 A levels. It consists of approximately 19 different units over a 2 year programme. For some students, particularly those who need to retake a Maths and English GCSE our smaller Level 3 or bridging year plus programme allows students to study a smaller number of units at Level 3 in year one alongside their GCSE courses. At the end of year one students may progress on to the full Extended Diploma programme.
The number of opportunities to pursue a career in sport has increased incredibly in the last 10 – 15 years and the Level 3 course is designed to prepare you for this range of opportunities no matter which route you prefer. If you are not yet ready for level 3 then there may be an opportunity to access a lower level course as part of the bridging year in preparation for the full course after one year with us. The extended diploma consists of 19 units studied over 2 years with a range of units such as Anatomy and Physiology, Assessing Risk, Sports Coaching, Sports Development and Practical Team Sports. It is possible to access the full range of university courses providing you achieve units at merit level and above and the course will also prepare you fully for life in the sport and leisure industry if university is not the desired route.
6 A*-C with English and Maths
Level 3 BTECs are assessed through coursework rather than exams but you will need to be prepared for plenty of independent research and extensive private study and have good IT skills to be successful on these courses.
Many students progress on to university but these courses also offer excellent routes to Higher Level Apprenticeships and give a good grounding for employment in your chosen sector.
