Course content

An exciting opportunity to study, in depth, the care and development of children and the role of the family. The course provides a basis for further training or for moving into employment within the childcare sector.
Students will plan and carry out investigations to develop their knowledge of children. As part of the coursework students are expected to complete observational visits in order to complete their child study


GCSE Child Development will be assessed through:
An external knowledge based examination, worth 40% of the final mark.
6 - 8 compulsary questions with a combination of short answers, structured and free response questions.
20 % of total marks.
this is based on parental, pregnancy, diet, health and care of the child or support for parent and child.
40% of total marks.
In depth study of a single child under the age of 5 years by the end of the study.
It involves observations of the child through an investigation/problem solving approach.
