Spanish A Level at St Michael's Church of England High School

Course description

Are you passionate about languages? Do you long to live and work abroad? Do you dream of travelling from Barcelona to Buenos Aires? Not only will you enhance your language ability, you will also boost your career prospects by cultivating key transferable skills which are highly valued by employers.

Course content

AS Spanish tests all four language skills – listening, reading, speaking and writing – whilst building upon already familiar topics from GCSE, such as Family and Tourism. A2 Spanish further develops your language skills through the study of more advanced topics including Spanish cinema. Grammar is a key part of both AS and A2.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Spanish and a grade C in GCSE English Language.


Examination – Unit 1 (Oral) (40%)

Examination – Unit 2 (Written) (60%) 2.5 hours

Examination – Unit 3 (Oral) (40%)

Examination – Unit 4 (Written) (60%) 3 hours

All assessment is via external examination following the WJEC specification.

Future opportunities

You can study Spanish as a single degree or combined with a vast choice of other subjects: Spanish and another language, Spanish and Business or European Studies. Even degrees in English can have foreign languages components. Did you know that language graduates are sought after by employers in all industries?
