Information Technology BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate at Nottingham Girl's Academy

Course description

This course is for those with a keen interest in IT who wish to develop their skills in various aspects of system design, hardware and software. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in various software packages to give you the high level skills sought after by employers.

Course content

You will study 6 different units. The first two cover computer systems and potential future jobs and the skills you will need to gain them. More specialist units are then covered looking at various software packages.

Units covered at Certificate (Mandatory units)

  • Communication and employability skills for IT.
  • Computer systems.

Units covered at Extended Certificate (Example optional units)

  • Software design and development.
  • Human computer interaction.
  • Information systems.
  • Database design.
  • Digital graphics.

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE including C grade or above in English and mathematics.


Coursework portfolio and external assessment.

Future opportunities

Completion of this course can lead to a university place studying an IT based degree. It also provides you with the skills and knowledge all employers will be looking for within a career in the IT industry.
