Performing Arts BTEC Level 3 at Lampton Academy

Course description

Welcome to the BTEC Performing Arts National level 3. This is an exciting new course that will give you a wide range of skills and experience as well an internationally recognised qualification equivalent to and A/S and A2.

The way that BTECs are taught relies on the students gaining essential skills such as team work, independent learning and creative thinking, all skills necessary for the work place or university. The units teach them a range of theatre styles, but also real life situations such as planning for a production, leading and minuting meetings and organising events.

Course content

Year 1 BTEC Level 3 Certificate (equivalent to an AS Level):

  • Unit 7: Performing to an audience

Two additional units will be chosen from a range of optional units. These may include physical theatre, scriptwriting, film and TV acting and many other disciplines within the Performing Arts.

Year 2 BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma (equivalent to A2):

  • Unit 19: Principles of Acting

Two additional units chosen from a range of optional units. The two units need to be different than the ones chosen in the first year of the course.


The course also includes a period of work experience relating to help understand how a variety of organisations include the performing arts in their work.

Entry requirements

A*- C or above in English, Drama or Performing Arts desirable.

Future opportunities

BTECs have been developed over 25 years and are recognised by higher education establishments and employers alike. BTECs equip the students with very practical, hands on learning experience and prepare them for employment or higher education.
