Art and Design A level at Trinity High School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

In Art, Design & Technology students combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design and make products and systems that meet human needs. They learn to use current technologies and consider the impact of future technological developments. They learn to think creatively, solving problems as individuals and members of a team.

Through Art, Design & Technology students develop confidence in using practical skills and become discriminating users of products.

Course content

A Level Art and Design consists of four units, each unit focuses on allowing students to visually communicate their ideas through the use 2D and 3D Medias. Students have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of using Resistant and Non Resistant Materials in order to produce successful final pieces.

As Designers students are expected to consider the Social Moral and environmental impact their products, Students are also expected to design products that are culturally aware, morally and ethical.

 

Assessment

Year 12:

  • Unit 1: Students to produce a portfolio of research, design, samples and a range of Final pieces.
  • Unit 2: Students to produce a portfolio of research, design, samples and a range Final pieces.
  • 5 hour Exam

Year 13:

  • Unit 3: Students to produce a portfolio of research, design, samples and variety of Final pieces.
  • Unit 4 Externally set task: Students to produce a portfolio of research, design, samples and Final piece.
  • 15 Hour Exam
