Media AS and A2

Course content

Students textually analyse the media through a study of genre, narrative and presentation. They will look at the text itself, the audience and different responses to a text, and the institutions that produce the text.

Entry requirements

Five A-C's at GCSE Level including English and Maths. Design and GCSE Media are desirable

Assessment

Assessment: 2 hours examination paper.

Q1 requires analysis of audio visual or print based media.

Q2 and 3 is based on representation and audience issues.

MS2: Media Production Processes

Students will produce three pieces of linked coursework.

1. A pre-production piece

2. A production piece

3. A report of 1200-1600 words

(50%)

 

A2 Media Studies

MS3: Media Investigation and Production

Students will produce three pieces of linked coursework.

1. A research investigation (1400-1800 words)

2. A production piece

3. A brief evaluation (500-750 words)

(50%)

 

MS4: Media - Text, Industry and Audience

This unit contributes to synoptic assessment. This unit will develop the students understanding of text, audience and industry. Three media industries will be selected to study in the examination, such as Television, Radio, Film, Music.

Assessment: 2 hours examination paper

Section A; 2 questions on media texts

Section B; 4 questions on industry and audience
