Media Studies A-Level at George Salter Academy

Course description

This four-unit specification in Media Studies integrates theoretical and practical approaches. The aims are to enhance candidates’ enjoyment and appreciation of the media and its role in their daily lives; develop critical understanding of the media through engagement with Media products and concepts and through the creative application of practical skills.

Progression routes from this course

The specifications provide a suitable foundation for the study of Media Studies or related courses in higher education. Equally they are suitable for candidates intending to pursue business careers or further study in Business Studies, or social sciences, or as part of a course of general education.

Assessment

AS G321: Internally assessed and externally moderated. 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks (coursework)

AS G322: Externally examined. 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks – 2 hr written paper

A2 G324: Internally assessed and externally moderated. 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks (coursework)

A2 G325: Externally examined. 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks – 2 hr written paper

Entry requirements

No prior knowledge of the subject is required. The specifications build on, but do not depend on, the knowledge, understanding and skills specified for GCSE Media Studies. It is recommended that candidates have attained communication and literacy skills at A-level equivalent to GCSE Grade C in English.
