Course description

Studying English Literature at AS and A level will allow students to hone their critical thinking, literacy, and analysis skills. The importance of these skills extends far beyond the classroom, as these will be of lifelong use to students no matter what career path is chosen. Through reading a wide variety of texts, students will become familiar with various writers, genres, themes, and time periods.  Students will learn to read independently for meaning, analyze texts, and compose written pieces in various specified forms.

 

English Language at AS and A level similarly will teach students to write in a variety of forms for different audiences and purposes. This specification has a heightened focus on language itself, and will allow students to explore how language is used and linked to social beliefs and values. The student who successfully completes this course will have a cultural understanding of the importance of language, and will have both analyzed texts and produced their own representations, further contributing to the student’s writing, critical thinking, and analysis skills.
