Media BTEC Extended First Certificate at Gateacre School
The BTEC First Certificate in Media Studies offers the opportunity to develop a range of creative skills in a number of industry areas. This vocational course aims to provide an insight into the industry practices of the creative media sector. Film production, photography, image manipulation/ publishing and computer games manufacture all feature in the syllabus, using state of the art technology to create professional products.
This is a one-year course awarding Pass, Merit or Distinction levels equivalent to two GCSE grades. Three units are completed during the year, the compulsory Unit 2 Research for the Media and two others, which may be offered as student electives, dependent on numbers.

The BTEC First certificate in Media offers an exciting opportunity to develop and explore the creative potential in modern communications, utilising cutting edge technologies to facilitate the production of professional adverts, films and print.
The primarily practical nature of the course and the 100% coursework assessment model provides students with the opportunity to explore their own ideas and develop their independent learning. The course demands maturity and dedication, particularly in the allowance of time and self-motivated learning, but can be very rewarding, presenting a glimpse into the exciting and rapidly expanding Media Industries.
