English Literature AS/A2 Level at BSix Brooke House Sixth Form College

Course description

As an English literature student at BSix you are privileged to be studying where Shakespeare’s plays were possibly written! It is a known fact that a nobleman called Edward de Vere lived at Brooke House (the site of BSix Brooke House Sixth Form College) in the early 1600’s and despite no hard evidence, there are some people who believe that de Vere was in fact the true author of Shakespeare’s plays.

Course content

English literature students will study a variety of topics over the two years reading across centuries, styles of writing, genres and gender, from the older traditions of English literature to the new. We will encourage you to read, watch and listen to a wide variety of texts and to talk about them and the ideas they provoke. There will be lots of discussion, as well as visits to the theatre and exhibitions.

Entry requirements

For students with 5 A-C Grades at GCSE. Must include English for all subjects and Maths for Maths, Sciences, Economics and Psychology A-Levels

Future opportunities

Students who study English literature can progress to university to study a range of courses at degree level including English, media, journalism or history
