World Development AS at Woodlands Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

Course content

World Development is a full AS level one year course. The points that you gain as a result of your grade for this course are recognised by all universities and could assist you in achieving the UCAS points that you need for entry to an undergraduate course. The course is taught at The Woodlands School and the Tile Hill Wood School sites and it is offered as an alternative to General Studies.

Entry requirements

To be eligible to enrol for the course you should have a selection of GCSE’s at grade C or above.  No particular subject is required.  The course contains elements of Geography, History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics and Business Studies.  The subject would be an idea supplement to these subjects or may be taken by any student with an interest in the major issues.


The course is examined by:

A piece of coursework consisting of an extended research essay 30%
plus two written examinations at the end of the course 35% each

Future opportunities

Universities recognise this as a useful A level for a broad range of humanities degree courses.
