Applied A Level Information Communication Technology at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

This is a broad based qualification which equips you with essential ICT skills for employment and university whilst also giving you a nationally recognised qualification. Students who do not have very good ICT skills can be significantly disadvantaged when going to university. This is therefore a relevant qualification for all Sixth Form students.

Course content

AS Level:

Unit 1: Using ICT to Communicate (Portfolio)
Unit 2: How Organisations use ICT (External)
Unit 3: ICT Solutions for Individuals and Society (Portfolio)

A2 Level:

Unit 4: Working to a Brief (External)
Unit 5: Publishing (Portfolio)
Unit 6: Developing and Creating Websites



Entry requirements

Students are normally expected to have 4 GCSEs at Grades A*-C and preferably have some ICT skills. Access to a computer at home is essential.

Future opportunities

The qualification is graded A-E and attracts the standard UCAS tariff points.  It is a good insight for those who may wish to study ICT at university or who are considering employment.  It also equips you with valuable ICT skills for university, work and life.
