Health and Social Care (BTEC Level 2) at New College Swindon

Course description

The course is planned so that you can learn about the caring community, including various groups and organisations working with the young, disabled and elderly.

You will be able to develop interests and skills which will help with your future life and career.  The course is modular, recording the skills you achieve as you progress.

You can achieve a BTEC Level 2 Certificate or Extended Certificate at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels.  If your work does not meet the level 2 criteria you may be awarded a level 1 certificate.

Course content

You will study units such as:

  • Effective Communication
  • Human Lifespan Development
  • Health and Social Care Values
  • Social Influences on Health and Wellbeing
  • Human Body Systems and care of Disorders
  • Creative and therapeutic activities
  • Individual Rights in Health & Social Care
  • Healthy Living

Projects and assignments are designed around real practical caring situations.    There are 2 externally set exams.

Entry requirements

You should have an interest in caring for other people in the community.  We are interested in you as an individual, not in your paper qualifications.

You should be keen to learn, prepared to work hard and be interested in working with others.  You will need to be well organised and show initiative in the planning of your work.

All applicants will be considered on their merits, but you will need at least four GCSEs at grade D including English.  Some knowledge of Information Technology would be useful.
