The Level 2 course provides knowledge and understanding in childcare and education to enable individuals to work in a supervised capacity in a variety of childcare settings. It is an ideal programme for those who have achieved 2 GCSEs at C grades or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. Students are required to attend college and practical placement training on alternate weeks throughout the year. The Welsh Baccalaureate is also studied as part of this programme.
Applicants must have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at C grade or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification at Distinction Level. Mature applicants without formal qualifications might be considered at the discretion of the Course Tutor. Satisfactory interview, reference and enhanced CRB check.
The course is based on continuous assessment. Most modules are assessed internally with one externally marked assessment during the year.
Students who successfully complete the course may be eligible to progress on to the Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education or the BTEC National Certificate / Diploma in Childrens Care Learning and Development. Those who enter employment would be eligible to work with children under supervision in a variety of settings eg. Primary and Nursery Schools, Childrens Centres, Day Nurseries and Additional Needs provisions.
