History at Blessed George Napier School

Course description

At AS and A2 we concentrate on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Students are encouraged to take an active role in the learning process through debates and individual research as well as receiving guidance from staff. The more you put in, the more you get out.

There is a shift of emphasis from ‘what’ to ‘why’ and ‘how’. It will provide a clear continuity from GCSE and, at the same time, sound preparation for higher education. The candidates will study four aspects of History; theories of explanation and the use of evidence at AS Level, and interpretations and historical significance at A2.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five A* - C grades at GCSE is required for all students wishing to enter the Sixth Form and the student should also have gained an A or B grade in the subjects they wish to take.
