Young Accountants Level 2 at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

AAT Level 2 Diploma in Accounting and Business is the course to start your accounting career by providing you with a professional accounting qualification. You will study a range of basic accountancy, payroll and employability skills to support you with entering into the workplace. Business units will support you with day to day communication, presentation, and expected standards of conduct, and how best to perform.

Course content

Processing Bookkeeping Transactions includes basic understanding of accounting, purpose of business documents, discounts, double entry, day books to control accounts/general ledger, and trial balance.

Control Accounts, Journals & Banking Systems includes a more in-depth understanding of the sales/purchase/VAT control accounts, journal postings/suspense accounts, correcting errors in the trial balance, banking procedures and bank reconciliation.

Basic Costing includes understanding of the different types of costs and how they affect calculating the cost of products and services; inventory valuation and budgets.

Work Effectively in Accounting & Finance includes prioritising workloads within the workplace and professional communication, conduct and behaviour.

Computerised Accounting teaches the Sage accounting software including initial setup and balance, entering transactions, posting payments/receipts, analysing debtors/creditors, and generating month end reports.

Applied Business Communications & Personal Skills includes the evaluation of business communications written and oral by applying effective communications and personal skills in the business environment.

Spreadsheet software teaches the Excel application and includes entering and organising numerical data, applying formulas and data analysis tools, and techniques to present and format spreadsheet.

Developing Study Skills includes the planning, timing, management and production of work and the ability to reflect on what you have accomplished.

Introduction to Payroll Systems teaches payroll procedures which includes how to calculate gross pay, taxes, national insurance and net pay.

Computerised Payroll Skills teaches Sage Payroll software including processing information on starters, leavers and changes to current employees, process accurate payroll on pay period basis, backing up and updating systems.

Entry requirements

An interview is required to determine the suitability of the course for the candidate.   GCSE ā€˜Cā€™ in Maths and English is preferred. However, if you do not have Cs in Maths and English then you will have to complete Key Skills Level 2 alongside the qualification.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the Certificate stage will permit progression to the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting will prepare you for the following jobs.
