This is a course which will give you the opportunity to study in one or more areas of Art and Design including, Observational Drawing, Painting, Print Making, Ceramics and Textiles. You will analyse and evaluate images from different periods of Art history and by different Artists. You will develop your ideas using a variety of materials and processes and present a personal response with a final piece of Artwork.
A Coursework portfolio which counts for 60% of the total marks.
These are Centre assessed and externally moderated.
The controlled test is set by the exam board and the centre sets a supervised timed exam which counts for 40% of the total marks.

Students who achieve a grade C or above are given the opportunity to progress to the AS and A2 course in Art and Design in the Sixth Form.
There will be an opportunity for you to visit a local Art Gallery and/or Museum during your course to study first hand the work of Artists and use the information to help develop your own work. There will also be an occasion when a visiting Artist will deliver a particular aspect or working procedure to you.
