SOCIOLOGY AS/A2 (AQA) at Royds School

Course description

Sociology is a subject that you will be able to relate to. Its relevant to your everyday lives and you will immediately engage with the subject.  Studying Sociology encourages you to develop critical and reflective thinking skills, and a respect for social diversity.

Course content

Over the two year course you will study:

 Education with MIC

 Research Methods

Religion

Crime & deviance with sociological theory and methods

You will also develop skills in:

Critical thinking

Analysis

Debating and empathy

 

 

 

 

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above.  (English at 5).

Assessment

Sociology is now linear.  All exams are to be taken in the final year of study.

There will be three exams at the end of the course.

Future opportunities

Sociology is the study of people and therefore the skills and knowledge you develop within the course are relevant to a wide variety of careers:

Community/Social Work, Housing Manager, Information Scientist, Journalist.
