Religious Studies AS OCR at Longdean School

Course description

This is an AS Level course that follows the popular OCR syllabus in the study of the Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics. You will complete two units in Year 12 to achieve an AS Level qualification: Unit G571: As Philosophy of Education Unit G572: AS Religious Ethics Unit G571 gives you the opportunity to discuss key questions relating to God's existence, His interaction with humanity, the nature of truth, the nature and validity of 'religious experiences' and the relationship between God's existence or non-existence and the human condition. Unit G572 then gives you the chance to consider these questions in relation to a selection of contemporary ethical issues including abortion, euthanasia and genetic engineering. How is the course examined or assessed? the AS level qualification is assessed with two 90 minute external examinations. All examinations are essay based and there is no coursework

Entry requirements

GCSE RE, Geography or History at grade C or above.

Religious Studies at AS and A level is not just for people who want to be priests! It is a respected qualification for all university entry requirements. It develops your ability to analyze complex ideas, to think logically, to present reasoned arguments and to express independent thought. It has, therefore, a range of uses in many different career paths.You will follow this course with two or three other AS levels or an Advanced diploma and, additionally, the compulsory core such as PSHE, RE, PE/Games. You can carry on to do A2 Religious Studies.
