BTEC First Hospitality, Travel & Tourism at Acland Burghley School

Course description

In the future with Hospitality, Travel and Tourism (HTT) students can progress to study further by completing level 2 and 3 qualification. HTT provides opportunities to work in industries like web design companies, travel agents, tour operators, catering, hotel, any branch of the travel industry, or hospitality industry and customer service employment. Studying HTT will give you a strong starting point for entering the work place. What will I be studying? 1. Starting work in HTT 2. Working in HTT 3. Introducing customer service 4. Social responsibility at work 5. Financial Management 6. The Aspiring Chef 7. Planning trips 8. Work experience What skills will I develop? • ICT skills: word processing, graphs, downloading info from Internet. • Communication skills: making telephone calls, doing interviews, presenting information to groups • Writing application forms, letters & CV • Organising and arranging a visit to an attraction like Chessington. • Map reading skills and research skills • Working out the costings for journeys • Organising hotel and airport visits, e.g. Holiday Inn The course structure You will study 8 units. Each unit will be done in a folder. There is no formal exam. This is an excellent course for students who: • Want an alternative to a full GCSE programme • Enjoy learning assignments based on real case studies in a vocational context. • Prefer coursework to final exams. Enjoy interviewing & developing action plans • Enjoy taking responsibility for collecting and presenting research • Wish to develop skills through vocational context • Want to progress to higher level qualifications How will I be assessed? Exam: There is no final exam. Coursework: You will complete 8 portfolio tasks. They will include ICT work, out of school activities,organisation of visits, presentations, displays, video work and work experience. Head of Department: Ms Wynne
