BTEC Level 3 in IT at Abbeyfield School

Course description

Students who choose BTEC Level 3 IT will cover 3 units per year. In year 12 we cover the compulsory units on Communication and Employability Skills for IT, and also the Computer Systems unit which requires students to complete practical work with computer hardware and software.

Various other units are available such as: e-commerce, database design, spreadsheet modelling, maintaining computer systems and digital graphics.

BTEC Level 3 IT is assessed 100% by coursework which will suit some students learning style - there are no exams but it will require hard work to complete all of the assignment work. In terms of results we have had outstanding success in BTEC Level 3 IT.

Year 13 last year achieved excellent results - over half the class achieved the highest grade possible (A* equivalent at A-Level) and the majority of the class exceeded their target grades. The current Y13 class is also performing well; all students are on track for at least a Merit and many are expected to reach Distinction stars.

Entry requirements

C in English or Maths. BTEC Level 2 IT is desirable.
