Construction Skills - C&G Level 1 Diploma at Isle of Man College

Course description

The course provides an opportunity to gain experience and practice across several craft areas.

The course is delivered over one year on a full-time basis and is mainly practical based with some theory modules. Two days are based within the Construction Programme Area with additional attendance for improving English and Maths. Note: students wishing to move into other Construction related courses must achieve a Merit grade on the 6219 and English at Grade D or equivalent.

Students are encouraged to obtain a work placement with a local construction company throughout the duration of the course to complement the theory and practical elements.

Course content

The course is broken down into units and includes:

Introduction to Health & Safety
Brickwork
Carpentry
Electrical Installation
Painting & Decorating
Plumbing

A course specific handbook can be found on the City and Guilds website.

Students with GCSE grades of E or lower in English and/or Maths must undertake additional studies to obtain a GCSE Grade D or equivalent in both subjects.

Students who have a GCSE grade D in English/Maths will be expected to re-sit accordingly.

Entry requirements

You will need to have a minimum of 2 GCSEs grades G (or above), or 1 GCSE grade G (or above) plus Function English level 1 (or equivalent).

Assessment

City & Guilds (6219)

Progress in most units will be monitored by continuous assessment. Results from each module will affect the overall qualification achieved.
