Travel and Tourism (Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma) at Central College Nottingham

Course description

This course provides a specialist, work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the travel and tourism sector. It is equivalent to two A Levels, which means that when you have finished the course you can either choose to get a job straight away or progress into higher education. The travel and tourism industry offers good promotion prospects and many people progress from operational jobs to supervisory and management positions. The course is taught by experienced professionals who have worked in the aviation, tourism and hospitality industry.

English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

Entry requirements

One of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language and Maths*
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification including GCSE English Language and Maths* at grade A*-C

*If you do not have GCSE Maths at A*-C, we may accept a Grade D in addition to your 4 GCSEs at A*-C. Functional Skills may be accepted instead of GCSE English and/or Maths. Functional Skills Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE Grade D and Level 2 to GCSE Grade C.

Adults who are aged 19+ with relevant industry experience but without the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

Assessment

Regular assessment through ongoing coursework and on residential trips. Your progress is also monitored via tutorials.

To support your application we will ask you to bring in a school report.

As part of your course you will need to take part in regular trips to local tourist destinations. In your first year you will attend a residential in the UK or Europe (cost approx. £250-£350). In your second year you may visit The Gambia for two weeks (cost approx. £700) to undertake work experience and other projects. These costs include travel, accommodation, activities and some meals. You will be able to follow a payment schedule to spread out the costs.
