Health & Social Care (BTEC) at Stanford & Corringham Sixth Form Centre

Course description

We are offering the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, equivalent to 3 A levels (180 credits).

Course content

13 units of which 8 are Mandatory and 4 are external. Mandatory content (72%). External assessment (42%).

Learners will study the following mandatory units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (Exam)
  • Human Lifespan Development (Exam)
  • Working in Health and Social Care (Exam)
  • Meeting Individual Care And Support Needs
  • Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
  • Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care (Synoptic - Exam)
  • Promoting Public Health
  • Work Experience in Health and Social Care.

Optional units in the general pathway include:

  • Sociological Perspectives
  • Psychological Perspectives
  • Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs
  • Nutritional Health
  • Physiological Disorders and their Care

Mandatory work placements

The Extended Diplomas includes a minimum of 100 hours work experience.

Entry requirements

  • BTEC level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care or any other related vocational area (i.e. Public Services) at Distinction level.
  • An average Attainment 8 score of 4 as well as a Grade 4 in English Language or Literature and Maths.
  • All students are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a clear DBS is a pre-requisite of the course

Financial information

£30.00 deposit to cover all text books to be paid on enrolment day. This will be refunded at the end of your course once your books have been returned to the subject teacher.

£5.00 non-refundable payment for an Access Key Fob to access Gable Hall School, Sixth Form and St Clere's School.

Future opportunities

This qualification is the main focus of a 2-year study programme of learning meaning that learners will be fully prepared for a range of health and social care degree programmes.

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers

as meeting admission requirements for many relevant courses, for example:
