Music Technology A Level at St Edward's Church of England School & Sixth Form College
This course is designed to develop your knowledge of music technology software such as Logic Pro, as well as teaching you the rudiments of the recording studio, and how to produce live recordings.
You will produce performances using sequencing software in a range of musical styles and develop the skills required to make high-quality recordings of musical performances You will learn how to compose and arrange using technology and develop your knowledge of the principles and development of music technology
It is expected that students will have achieved at least GCSE grade C in Music.
This course is suited to students who are interested in learning about recording, sequencing and the development of music technology and its applications. Students should be proficient in at least one instrument and should be able to read music. GCSE music is preferred, though not essential, students should be able to prove that they are competent musicians before they will be accepted onto the course.
AS Unit 1 - Music Technology Portfolio 1 (35%).
AS Unit 2 - Listening and Analysing (15%).
A2 Unit 3 - Music Technology Portfolio (30%)
A2 Unit 4 - Analysing and Producing (20%)
Unit 3 builds on skills acquired in Unit 1. Tasks are extended to include a composition and involve detailed study of The Development of Music Technology. In addition to three coursework tasks, students also undertake a written examination to assess musical understanding and a practical test to measure the ability to produce a balanced stereo mix.
Further study of music technology Performing arts at Higher National or degree level Careers in the music industry or technology/computer orientated professions.
