A Level Citizenship at Sir George Monoux College

Course description

Are you interested in learning about your rights and responsibilities - as a world citizen as well as in your own country? Do you want to know more about ethical trading, or human rights in Africa? This course will give you a greater appreciation of your role in local and global society. You will study fascinating topics such as identity, rights, responsibilities, power, justice, global issues and making a difference. The course also covers many areas of Criminology, making this an excellent choice if you're interested in this field.

Course content

You will learn about world issues and what it means to be a global citizen. In your AS year you will study Identity, Rights, Responsibilities, Democracy, Active Citizenship and Participation. In your A2 year you will study Power, Justice, Global Issues and Making a Difference. In this we cover human rights globally and and specialise in human rights in East Africa. We also look at ethical trading and we specialise in the Caribbean region. We also cover many areas of Criminology, making this an excellent choice for students interested in this field.

Assessment

This A Level course is a mixture of Exams and Coursework based on an active Citizenship task.

Future opportunities

A Level Citizenship opens the door to the possibility of doing a degree and moving into a career in a wide variety of areas - not just in Citizenship but in Law, Politics, Education, Health and Social Care, History and International Development.
