BTEC Level 2: Music Technology at Ashby School

Course description

Music Technology plays a key role in music across the world. This BTEC qualification is the equivalent of two GCSEs at grades A* - C. The emphasis is on practical tasks. Students are encouraged to explore their musicality and create original material, using technology. This course is suited to students who play traditional or non-traditional instruments and for those who have a technological interest in music genres and production methods. Students must study one core unit, 'Planning and Creating a Musical Product'. They then choose two further units from a range of activities.

Entry requirements

This course is available to Year 10 and 11 students. Year 12 students can follow the A level Music Technology course.

Future opportunities

There are many Higher Education and career opportunities for students proficient in handling music technology. This qualification is widely accepted by Higher Education providers.This course offers students a specialist qualification for working in the music industry and the performing arts. It may also lead to other vocational qualifications such as a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Music or Performing Arts. Students can also choose a music-related NVQ such as Music Technology. With further training, students could choose a career related to music such as becoming a music conductor, voice coach or music teacher. The course also provides students with the musical knowledge, understanding and skills sought by many employers in the music industries.
