Business BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Cowes Enterprise College

Course description

BTEC National Business provides you with an interesting, challenging and practical educational experience. It gives you a sound, in depth knowledge of the world of business which impacts upon the lives of each and every one of us every day.

The course is delivered in a way which engages the students including the input of people from the world of business, visits to organisations (locally, nationally and sometimes internationally). This enables us to see how the theory we have learned works in the real world. We adopt a hands-on, learn by doing approach. For example, we like to ensure our students undertake some relevant work experience where they can use the skills and knowledge they have gained from the course.

The nature of this course is ideal for those students looking for flexibility in their curriculum. There are two levels which will provide a tiered programme of study for all students ranging from those who are looking for a wide diversity in their Level 3 experience to those who wish to specialise in Business and have identified a clear specific business related career path once they leave the college. In other words we have a course for everyone!

Diploma (equivalent of two A Levels; this incorporates the work covered in the Extended Certificate)

Core Units:

  • Exploring Business: Internally assessed unit
  • Developing a marketing campaign: Task set and marked by Pearson
  • Personal and business finance: Written exam
  • Managing and event: Internally assessed unit
  • International business: Internally assessed unit
  • Principles of management: Task set and marked by Pearson

The remainder of the course is then assessed with optional units that are internally assessed. There are a range of units to choose from and each group of learners will vote and select their optional units.

Future opportunities

Business provides students with the skills that employers and universities need. Regardless of what career you choose it is useful to understand the way your organisation is run. You’ll gain an understanding of the financial, strategic, operational and organisational context in which your eventual employment will take place. It will broaden your perspective and give you an advantage when applying for positions in employment or Higher Education.

Give yourself a head start!

You may be interested to know that Business Studies and Marketing graduates had a higher post graduation employment rate than any other subject discipline and, Management Studies (a Business discipline) students earn, on average, more upon graduation than virtually any other discipline.
