Applied Health and Social Care Diploma at Haslingden High School, Specialist Arts, Maths and Computing College

Course description

Health and Social Care covers the areas which underpin the knowledge, understanding and skills of the health and social care sectors. The course will include a breadth and depth of learning including core values within sectors, in addition to the relationships between contemporary policies and service provision and the impact of financial challenges on service provision in the UK.

Course content

- Unit 1: Core values and services
- Unit 2: Employment within the sectors
- Unit 3: Disease, illness and disability
- Unit 4: Human behaviour
- Unit 5: The ageing demographic

Entry requirements

Grade 4 at GCSE English. There is no requirement to have studied the subject previously, although the subject does support progression from level 2 in Health and Social Care and Child Development.


This course is assessed through examinations (50%) and coursework assignments (50%)

This level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care would be of great benefit to those seeking experience or careers in childcare, nursing, paediatrics, midwifery, social work, teaching, the police service, the probation service, youth offending teams, medicine, paramedics, health visiting, mental health and counselling.
