Government and Politics - A Level at St Gregory the Great Catholic School

Course description

This course allows you to study contemporary politics and develop a strong understanding of the factors shaping both the British and American systems. If you are fascinated by the way decisions are made, who makes them and the thinking behind them then this subject will interest you. The AS specification has 2 compulsory units:
Unit 1: Contemporary Politics of the UK
You will gain an understanding of parties, party systems and pressure groups in the UK as well as electoral systems, parliamentary elections, voting behaviour and party ideology.
Unit 2: Contemporary Government of the UK
You will explore the composition, role and power of the legislative and executive branches of government in the UK as well as the judiciary, constitution, rights of the individual and the EU.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 6 GCSE passes at grade C or above.
