Course description

This level 3 course presents a fantastic opportunity to those wanting to progress their career in healthcare and develop new skills and knowledge. The purpose of this qualification is to guide and assess the development of skills relating to clinical healthcare support. The potential job roles for those working towards this qualification include Healthcare assistant or Phlebotomist.

This Apprenticeship consists of 3 component parts, all of which must be completed.

✓ The NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support

✓ Functional Skills (all level 2) in English, Maths and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

✓ The Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities

Course content

The Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support (QCF) has the following mandatory units: ✓ Promote Communication in health & social care ✓ Engage in personal development in health & social care ✓ Promote equality and inclusion in health & social care ✓ Principles for implementing duty of care ✓ Promote person centred approaches in health and social care ✓ Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care ✓ Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings ✓ Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care ✓ The role of the health and social care worker ✓ The Principles of Infection Prevention and Control ✓ Causes and Spread of Infection ✓ Cleaning, Decontamination and Waste Management

Entry requirements

The course is suitable for those with basic levels of literacy, numeracy and communication skills upon which this qualification will build. Suitable learners will show an enthusiasm for working in the health sector, have a suitable level of physical fitness, be willing to undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and be flexible as there may well be a requirement to work on a rota basis.

Individual employers or roles may have additional employment entry requirements including the ability to drive. Apprentices who took their GCSE’s more than 5 years ago and did not attain a grade C or above will need to take a literacy and numeracy test.

Future opportunities

On completion of this pathway, learners may progress onto further qualifications specific to their work context. A wide range of qualifications are available for use within the health sector.

These may include further QCF qualifications, a range of higher education qualifications or other work-related education and training to support Continuing Professional Development.
