Geography A Level (Block A) at St Simon Stock Catholic School
The course is assessed in 3 parts. One Physical Geography exam and one Human Geography exam, both worth 40% of the final grade and coursework, based on fieldwork, worth 20%.
The Physical Geography topics are, Water and Carbon and Hazards. The Human Geography topics are, Changing Places and Resource Security.
The Physical Geography topic is, Coasts, The Human Geography topic is Global systems and Global Governance.
Geography develops knowledge of places and environments, an understanding of maps, and a range of investigative and problem-solving skills. This A level specifies the systems approach to examine physical processes. In Human Geography you will learn about how places develop a sense of place and the importance of resource security, amongst other things.
Students should aim to achieve a minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE Geography. It is possible to study A level Geography without having studied it at GCSE. In this case students should aim to achieve a 5 grade in a range of subjects.
Students who study A level Geography go on to a wide variety of further study and employment. At St. Simon Stock this has included, Geography, Law, Accountancy, Journalism, Architecture, Medicine, research and many more.
