Further Mathematics at St Martin's School Brentwood

Course description

Further Mathematics must be studied in combination with A-Level Mathematics the details of which are available separately.

The first year of the combined course covers AS Mathematics and AS Further Mathematics covering three core/pure unites, two statistics units and one decision unit.

Core/pure units include work on algebra, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, and calculus. This leads to further work on inequalities, complex numbers, differential equations and polar coordinates.

Statistics delves into probability, data analysis, correlation, regression and the Normal distribution.

Decision maths explores algorithms, route inspection techniques, critical path analysis, linear programming and network problems.

In year 13, more advance core/pure marks is studied plus two mechanics units related to Newtonian motion, vector geometry and circular motion.

Entry requirements
