Drama and Theatre Studies at Droitwich Spa High School

Course description

The AS course will start with an induction unit to ensure all pupils understand key terminology and can work well together as a group. We then move on to two AS units. The first consists of workshop drama lessons exploring two drama texts and at least one theatre practitioner; you will be expected to produce a detailed written exploration of the texts (written coursework). For Unit Two you will be cast in two plays (one as part of your whole group and one on your own or in a pair) to rehearse and perform to an audience (practical exam).

The A2 level course involves a further two modules. The first is a practical unit in which the group will devise and perform their own play (practical and written coursework). In unit 4 you will study two set texts and a live performance and be assessed on understanding and knowledge in an external exam.

Entry requirements

A C or above at GCSE drama is desirable. However, if you have proven drama experience in or out of school and at least a C in English you may also be accepted.

You should have a genuine interest in Drama and the theatre, and a willingness to work practically in this area.
