Course description

A-Level Further Mathematics is an excellent foundation for both further study and employment. It opens doors to a variety of exciting careers.

Finance/Economics, Teaching, Computing, Chartered Accountants, Medical Statistics, Cryptography – internet, credit cards, Structural Engineers, Space Research. In fact, at some level, nearly every profession needs mathematicians.

A-Level Further Maths will make the transition to a mathematics-related university course easier. If you are considering a degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Computing at a highly competitive university you are strongly advised to study Further Mathematics to at least AS-level.

Further Maths: comprises three units:
• Further Pure 1(FP1).
• Further Pure 2(FP2)
• Further Pure 3(FP3)

Mechanics: consists of the study of forces and motion of bodies. Students study the following units:
• Mechanics 2(M2)
• Mechanics 3(M3)

Statistics: consists of mathematical models in probability, discrete random variables and the normal distribution. Students study the following units:
• Statistics 2(S2)
• Statistics 3(S3)

A-Level Further Maths comprises six units and must be taken in addition to A Level Mathematics. Most students would expect to study FP1, FP2 and FP3 Along with 3 of the following units: M2, M3, S2 and S3, although this obviously depends on modules taken at AS. Not all units are available in every academic year and we may vary the range of units available.
