Religion, Philosophy and Ethics A level at Howard of Effingham School
Unit 1: Christian Religious thought
Unit 2: Philosophy of Religion: A history of religious philosophy and the arguments for and against religious belief. .
Unit 3: Ethics: An introduction to ethical theories as applied to medical ethics.
Unit 4: Developments in Christian Religious thought and its impact on society
Unit 5: Philosophy of Religion: An in-depth study of the key issues in the philosophy of religion including life after death, the existence of the soul, the nature of divine revelation and religious experience, interpretations of holy scriptures, and the problem of religious language.
Unit 6: Ethics: An in-depth study of Christian and secular concepts of conscience and free will, and ethical theories as applied to businesses, war, peace and justice, sex and relationships.
A grade B or above is necessary in Religious Studies at GCSE although other students will be considered on their merits.
Three written papers of 2 hours, equally weighted.
