BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) 120 Credits at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (Blurton)
The Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) is a two year programme that is equivalent to 2 A Levels.
The course deals with the scientific themes and concepts of sport and exercise science and aims to provide studies in sport which are directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport science industry.
The following units are compulsory when taking the course;
1 Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
2 The Physiology of Fitness
3 Assessing Risk in Sport
4 Fitness Training and Programming
7 Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
11 Sports Nutrition
17 Psychology for Sports Performance
27 Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport
28 The Athlete’s Lifestyle
There will also be 4 extra units that Students will take in year 2.
5A*-C at GCSE including English and Maths AND
First Diploma in Sport – Minimum grade Merit (although students are considered on an individual basis and other qualifications may be acceptable)
The course is assessed by the following criteria;
Maximum of 280 UCAS Points can be awarded for this course.
Bursary Applications are means tested
Higher Education courses, such as Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports Therapy or Sports Management, coaching and gym instructing in the leisure and fitness industry.
Pupils will be required to buy the Sir Stanley Matthews Academy 6th Form P.E. Kit at the start of the course.
There will be a number of trips and external learning experiences throughout the 2 years.
