Course description

The Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Engineering gives young people a broad understanding of engineering and its related sectors in industry. The employer-endorsed content is up-to-date and relevant, reflecting the blend of technical, interpersonal and project skills needed by someone who is thinking about a career in the engineering sector.This course covers the basic knowledge and technical practical skills, providing a good foundation for future career or progression to a more advanced work related course or technician qualification. The pattern of attendance is usually 4 days per week.This course is ideal if you have not studied Engineering before and would like to develop the skills required for a career in Engineering. Course content

The course is aimed at those who wish to either progress onto a Level 3 BTEC Engineering or Level 3 BTEC Electrical/Electronic Engineering course and go on to University or those who wish to develop their practical and theoretical skills to enable them to work in the Engineering industry.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade A* - D including Mathematics, science and English Language or a relevant Level 1 Certificate/Diploma qualification at Merit Grade with GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade A *- D or Level 1 Functional Skills in Mathematics and English.

Assessment

All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Future opportunities

You may be able to progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma on a part-time basis, subject to obtaining an apprenticeship or Level 3 Extended Diploma on a full-time basis, subject to achieving an overall Merit Grade for the Level 2 Diploma.

If you are aged 19 or over at the start of the course you will pay an exam registration fee of approximately £130 payable at enrolment.
