French A-Level at The Nottingham Emmanuel School

Course description

This course is excellent for students who have an active interest in other languages and cultures, good communication skills and the ability to learn independently. It should also appeal to those passionate about business, tourism, literature and media.

Course content

Throughout the course students will become proficient in Spanish or French, work effectively in groups and develop independent learning skills. They will also develop their analytical, communication and listening skills.

Entry requirements

Students should have a minimum of a Grade C in the chosen language at GCSE

Future opportunities

A language course of this depth and intensity opens many possible avenues. Students may wish to study the language in further depth at university or combine it with other subjects such as Chemistry or Geography. Those looking to work in the travel/tourism industry will find that speaking a language is an essential part of their job. Students who wish to work in the sphere of law or take a high powered job working for the European Union, for example, will find that speaking a European language is an essential criterion for employment.

A language AS/A Level offers so much more than linguistic proficiency and can provide access to jobs such as translating/interpreting, teaching, accounting, marketing, science and research, media, journalism and many more!
