Leisure Studies A-Level at Diss High School

Course description

‘A’ Level Leisure Studies is an exciting ‘A’ Level which gives students the opportunity to explore the different parts of a wide and varied industry which incorporates Sport, Recreation and Leisure.

Through practical activities, students will gain an insight into what is now the largest growing industry in Europe. Amongst other things, you will be taught how to run leisure events, the background to the sports industry and the importance of marketing for sports and leisure businesses.

Course content

The AS course comprises:

  • The Leisure Industry
  • Working Practices in Leisure
  • The Leisure Customer

The A2 course comprises:

  • Leisure in Action
  • Employment in Leisure
  • Current Issues in Leisure

The course will appeal to students with a real interest in sports, leisure and recreation who prefer to work steadily throughout the year and be assessed continuously, as two-thirds of the final grade is assessed through coursework.

A variety of teaching and learning styles are used, including visits to leisure organisations, group work, personal investigation and practical work.

Entry requirements

You are required to have at least five Cs at GCSE including Maths and English Language at Grade C.

Subject Specific

We are looking for students who have obtained at least five grade Cs at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics.

Future opportunities

Successful students will be able to progress into Higher Education and the qualification is widely recognised by employers for students who want to go into a job when they leave the Sixth Form.

Recent students have gone on to P.E. teaching degrees, business/management degrees, sports science degrees etc. and a range of jobs in leisure and industry.
