Course description

Course content

The qualification is aimed at students who have made a choice to focus theirlearning and career development in Photography, have achieved 4 GCSEs atGrade D or above including English Language (or BTEC Level 1 Diploma inArt & Design)and who may also be working towards achieving a Grade C orabove for GCSE English Language and/or Mathematics and wish tocomplement their study programme.Through this programme of study students can then progress onto BTEC Level3 Extended Diploma in Photography or into employment.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade D or above including English Language or a FoundationLevel qualification in Art and Design and equivalent Functional Skillsqualification.You will also need a portfolio of artwork demonstrating your ability in Art andDesign.

Assessment

The BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Art and Design includes two externallyassessed units. This will assist stuents as they progress either into higherlevels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications, by providingindependent assessment evidence of learning alongside the portfolio-basedassessment. This approach will also assist stuents with developing a range oftransferable skills, and in applying their knowledge in unfamiliar contexts.The remaining units are internally assessed. Internal assessment allowsstudents to develop a wider range of skills and provide evidence towardsmeeting the unit assessment criteria.Evidence for internal assessment can be generated through a range ofactivities, including practical art and design activities, workshops, generation offinal art and design outcomes, and verbal presentations when reviewing ordiscussing outcomes.

At the start of the course students are charged for the materials they useduring the course and for the visits we undertake during the course, details ofthese fees will be given to you at your interview.At Level 2 we do not expect students to provide their own cameras or buy theirown kit, but going forward this investment is necessary for Level 3 students.
