Course description

This programme is designed for people who intend to or are working in the Motorcycle & Motor Vehicle repair industry.

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 1 will be preparation for the world of work and the development of personal, social and employability skills. As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English and/or maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs or equivalent at grade E – G or an Entry Level qualification.


Most of your time will be spent in the workshops and there may also be work experience at a garage. The practical element of the course is continuously assessed in College and on work experience. The theory is also continuously assessed.

Future opportunities

The programme is designed to enable you to progress on to a second year, where you will gain the Institute of The Motor Industry Diploma Maintenance and Repair at Level 2. Alternatively, you may wish to consider an Apprenticeship or employment in the motor industry where you will be able to do VCQ at Level 2.
