Physical Education AS Level at West Kirby Grammar School
WHY CHOOSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION?
If you enjoy taking part in sporting activities, would like to know more about how your body works, how physical education has developed and discuss current issues in sport, you should consider studying Physical Education.
CONTENT - Advanced Subsidiary Level
You will study three compulsory modules - Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring Movement Skills and Socio-Cultural Studies. You also have to offer two practical activities where you are required to perform and coach or officiate. You will also observe and evaluate a live performance of another candidate.
- Entry onto AS courses is conditional on you achieving at least five B grades at GCSE Level which must include the subjects you intend to study
- If you are starting a new subject at AS Level such as Psychology or Film Studies you must achieve a B grade in a related subject at GCSE Level such as Science or English
- All students must also achieve at least a C grade in Mathematics and English Language
Written paper 2 hours (60%)
Practical coursework (40%)
WHAT CAN I DO WITH PHYSICAL EDUCATION?
This course will provide you with an excellent foundation if you want to follow more advanced courses in Sports Studies, Sports Science, Physical Education Teaching, Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy and Sports Development.
WHAT DO I NEED TO START THE COURSE?
You do not need to have studied Physical Education at GCSE to study it at Advanced Subsidiary or Advanced Level, but if achieved, at least a grade B is required. You do need to have a keen interest in sport and science as well as being a competent performer in your chosen practical activities.
