Course description

Why choose History?

History is an academic subject welcomed by universities and employers alike and provides an excellent base for a surprising number of degrees, including law.

What does the course involve?

The theme for the course is “History looking forward to the 21st Century”, as we study the story behind the powers and issues that are shaping our world today. There are two units at AS and two units at A2.

For AS, we study communism in Russia under Stalin and in China under Mao. We also study how India gained its independence from the British Empire and how important key individuals were in the process.

For A2, the coursework unit is an investigation into Conflict in the Middle East. The final examination is on Controversies in the Cold War.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE Grades C or above, including History. If you do not have a History GCSE, a Grade B in English Language is required.
