Creative Digital Media Production Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit Diploma at Guildford College

Course description

This one year course will widen your understanding of the specialist skills and knowledge needed to help you begin a successful career in media production.

The course is designed to be adaptable to you abilities and career aspirations.

The structure of the course allows you to focus on the areas that interest you the most, such as film and video editing techniques, single camera techniques, factual programme production, multi camera studio techniques or film studies.

You will complete the Foundation Diploma in year one of this course, and will have completed the full Extended Diploma by the end of your second year.

Course content

It consists of 6 core units, a mandatory specialist unit and a choice of specialist units -

  • TV studio projects
  • stop-motion animation
  • documentary
  • single camera drama
  • experimental film
  • sound in film
  • corporate video
  • film studies
  • film and tv sector
  • critical approaches to media products
  • a final major project. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language or Creative Media Production Level 2 BTEC Diploma.


Project based practical work and theoretical assignment briefs.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the 90 Credit Diploma, you can progress onto the Extended Diploma.

On completion of the full Extended Diploma you could study a degree in media, cinematography or the moving image or employment within the industry as runners, video editors or Mac operators.

Further information

All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
