Psychology - A level at City College

Course description

Psychology develops a range of valuable skills, including critical analysis, independent thinking and research.

Throughout the course students will study different approaches and methods related to the core areas of Psychology – cognitive, social, biological, developmental, individual differences and research methods along with psychological issues and debates.

Compulsory topics include social influence, memory, attachment, psychopathology, approaches in psychology, biopsychology, research methods, issues and debates in psychology. There are optional units including: relationships, gender, cognition and development, schizophrenia, eating behaviour, stress and more.

Paper 1:  Introductory Topics in Psychology
Exam: 2 hours, 96 marks, 33.3%

Paper 2:  Psychology in Context
Exam: 2 hours, 96 marks, 33.3%

Paper 3:  Issues and Options in Psychology
Exam: 2 hours, 96 marks, 33.3%

Entry requirements

5/C Grade or above in Sciences and/or Humanities.

Assessment

All modules are exam based

Financial information

The course is open to anyone who is aged 16-18 on the 31st August,  in the year that the course starts

Future opportunities

This qualification supports progression into further and higher education, training or employment in a wide variety of disciplines
